Stockton man set on fire in homophobic attack
A man has been set on fire and seriously injured in a homophobic attack, police have said.
The 20-year-old was confronted as he walked through the grounds of Holy Trinity Church on Yarm Lane in Stockton at about 03:00 BST.
Four men quizzed him about his sexual orientation and then one sprayed his legs with aerosol and set it alight.
He was treated at the University Hospital of North Tees where he needed skin grafts on his calves.
Cleveland Police said they were treating the attack as a homophobic hate crime and are appealing for information.
