Community and charity volunteers from Teesside have been recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Dorothy Clark, who has served her local village of Greatham for more than 72 years, has been made a Member of the British Empire.

The 85-year-old regularly collects litter and sweeps streets, and inspires youngsters to get involved.

Kenneth Hayes, 83, has been awarded a British Empire Medal for his work with the elderly and disabled in Hartlepool.

Sydney Howarth, of Newton Aycliffe, has also been made a Member of the British Empire in recognition of his community work. He launched a branch of the Rotary Club that went on to raise thousands of pounds.
