Honda Civic splits in two in Hartlepool tree crash

Two men received serious injuries when their car crashed into a tree and split in two in Hartlepool.

The red Honda Civic hit a tree on Belle Vue Way close to a junction with Brenda Road at about 00:50 GMT.

The driver, a 32-year-old man, received severe head injuries and was described as "stable" at James Cook University Hospital.

A male passenger suffered fractures to both legs and a broken arm, and was in a critical but stable condition.

Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses.
