A man killed in a house fire in Darlington has been identified.

The blaze at the property on Lewes Road on Friday blew out the windows and the body of 48-year-old Timothy Matthews was found upstairs.

Emergency services were called at about 02:50 BST with initial reports suggesting that there had been an explosion.

A police and fire service investigation has concluded the cause was not suspicious.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated and the street, just off Neasham Road, was cordoned off.
