'Attempted murder' arrest after Newton Aycliffe stabbing

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in County Durham.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, suffered stomach injuries after being attacked with what police believe was a kitchen knife.

It happened next to Reeth Place in Newton Aycliffe at about 18:30 BST on Friday.

The victim was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he had surgery.
