Kieran Arkless dies after A689 taxi crash

A driver died when his car was involved in a crash with a taxi in County Durham.

Kieran Arkless, 23, from Willington, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A689, near Bishop Auckland early on Sunday.

The driver of the taxi suffered serious injuries, but further details of his condition have not been released.

A third vehicle crashed with the two cars after the initial collision, but the two occupants were not badly hurt.

Durham Police appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened close to the Newton Cap viaduct at about 00:30 GMT.
