Middlesbrough fan's 'racist gesture' at Blackburn match probed
An alleged racist gesture by a fan at the end of a Championship match between Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers has sparked a police investigation.
Middlesbrough led 1-0 at the Riverside until four minutes into stoppage time, when Blackburn's Rudy Gestede scored a controversial equaliser.
A Middlesbrough fan was seen gesturing at a player in a way perceived as racist at the end of the match.
Blackburn reported the incident to the FA following the match on 29 November.
It happened at about 17:00 GMT as the Blackburn players applauded their fans, police said.
Gestede appeared to react angrily to a signal from the crowd.
Middlesbrough were aggrieved because they felt their goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos had been fouled in the run-up to the goal.
The fan who made the gesture was is the East Stand in block 40-42, police said.
