Matthew Longstaff, 21, killed in Neasham collision

A man died when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle on the outskirts of Darlington early on New Year's Day.

Matthew Longstaff, 21, from Ravensworth Road, Bishop Auckland, was driving a Ford Focus which collided with a Dacia Duster on Neasham Road in Neasham.

Mr Longstaff, from Bishop Auckland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 76-year-old male driver the of Dacia and a 74-year-old woman passenger, suffered minor injuries.

A spokesman for Durham Police said: "The Ford Focus was travelling south on Neasham Road from the direction of Middleton St George when it appears to have gone across into the opposite lane and collided with the Dacia Duster, which was heading north.

"We would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward."
