'Mouse problem' closes Teesside pizza outlet

A Teesside takeaway has been closed due to a "serious mouse problem" and poor cleanliness.

Middlesbrough Council officials visited Sicilianos Pizzeria, on Rothbury Road in Berwick Hills and found mouse droppings throughout the premises.

Environmental health manager Judith Hedgley said closing the takeaway was the "only option" after conditions "proved a risk to food being prepared".

She added the takeaway had also made other breaches of food hygiene rules.

The council was granted a court order by Teesside Magistrates prohibiting the use of the premises as a food business.
