Hundreds of mourners gathered for the funeral of a three-year-old Darlington boy killed in a hit-and-run.

Danny Wake died on 4 November while walking home from shops with his mother Kayren Winter, his younger brother and another child.

Police have yet to trace the driver of the vehicle which hit the youngster, from Lascelles Park in Darlington.

Pallbearers carried a coffin decorated with characters from the film Toy Story into the town's St John's Church.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

Thousands of Chinese lanterns were released into the sky last week by friends and family in Darlington as a tribute to the youngster.
