Cleveland Police warning over ATM 'cash trap' devices

People withdrawing money from ATMs on Teesside have been warned to be on their guard following a spate of reports of "cash trap" devices.

In the past six weeks there have been 17 incidents of users not receiving any money, though it is later found to have been taken from their accounts.

Police said it would have been stolen by the people who installed the devices.

ATMs in the Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar areas have been affected.

Cleveland Police have asked members of the public to contact the force if they spot anything suspicious on a machine or see anyone acting suspiciously near the bank.
