Slashed Guisborough ram put down

A ram had to be put down and another was found dead after being slashed in a "sickening" attack on a Guisborough farm.

Police said the sheep were grazing in a field just off Wilton Lane when they were slashed on Thursday night.

The ram found dead had had its throat cut and both animals had had their legs and genitals cut.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said the attack was "cowardly" and asked for help to catch the culprit.

PC Jo Runagall said: "This is a cowardly attack on two defenceless animals.

"They were tame and gentle creatures and it beggars belief that anyone could do this to them.

"Both animals had suffered severe pain and loss of blood, then were left to die in the field.

"I would appeal for everyone in the area to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour, and for anyone who may know something about this incident to contact police."
