The wife of Cleveland Police's former chief constable has resigned from the force ahead of a misconduct hearing.

Det Ch Insp Heather Eastwood was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in North Yorkshire in 2011.

She was due to face an Independent Police Complaints Commission misconduct hearing for allegedly failing to report the arrest to her own force.

Her husband, Sean Price, was sacked by the force last year.

Mr Price became the first police chief to be dismissed in 35 years after being found guilty of lying about his role in the recruitment of the former police authority chairman's daughter.

Cleveland Police said the disciplinary proceedings against Ms Eastwood would no longer go ahead.

The IPCC said it would publish the findings of the investigation next week.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a chief inspector who was due to face a misconduct hearing has now resigned from the force.

"As the individual is no longer a serving police officer they are no longer subject to disciplinary proceedings."
