Man arrested after acid left on Middlesbrough train

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a bottle containing hydrochloric acid was left on a train at Middlesbrough station.

British Transport Police (BTP) appealed for information after the incident which closed the station and cancelled services on Sunday.

Officers were called after passengers reported a burning smell.

A BTP spokeswoman said: "The man remains in custody and is currently helping police with their inquiries."
