Axa call centre jobs in Stockton 'at risk'

A number of jobs have been put at risk at a call centre in Stockton.

Insurance company Axa, which employs 900 people in the town, said "a small number" of jobs have been put at risk during a 30-day consultation process.

The spokesperson said "tough trading conditions" and the "need to reduce costs" were to blame.

Axa took out a 10-year lease on the Zetland Buildings in Middlesbrough, leading to the creation of 450 jobs in October 2011.

The company refused to confirm how many posts were affected.
