Wynyard Park warehouse to create hundreds of jobs

Hundreds of jobs are to be created with the opening of a new multimillion-pound clothes warehouse at a Teesside business park.

More than £15m will be spent refitting the unit at Wynyard Park which will distribute clothing for George at Asda.

It is hoped the warehouse, which will be run by Leeds-based Clipper Logistics, will create between 400 and 500 jobs.

It is due to be fully operational by September of 2012.

'Huge benefits'

The development is a joint venture between British Airways Pension Trustees Limited and Sladen Estates Limited.

Paul Barber, managing director of Wynyard Park, said: "We are delighted that we have been chosen as the site for this development, as it will bring huge benefits to the local area both in terms of jobs and investment.

"I'm sure that our prime location with easy access to the main road network, including the A19 and A1, was a key consideration, along with the range of support services that we offer."

Tony Mannix, managing director of Clipper Logistics, said the warehouse would initially be used for Asda clothing but that he hoped it would eventually serve other clients.
