Police investigating the disappearance of a missing man from Hartlepool say they have found a body in the town.

The body was found on the town's Central Estate on Wednesday night, emergency crews said.

Cleveland Police said they expected the recovery of the body would take some time.

They said the body had not been identified but they were supporting the family of Darren Waller, 36, who has been missing since January.

A number of searches have been carried out including at the former Steetley industrial site.

Det Supt Gordon Lang, of Cleveland Police, said: "We are conscious of the long-running inquiry into the disappearance of Darren Waller but are unable to confirm it is him. We are supporting Mr Waller's family at this time."
