A man has been jailed for 15 years for a string of sex attacks on a 12-year-old girl he groomed on Facebook.

Jason Robinson told his victim that people would think she was a prostitute if she told anyone what he had done, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Robinson, from Stockton, was found guilty of child rape and eight counts of sexual activity with his victim, between 2006 and 2010.

The 40-year-old was also found guilty of sexually assaulting the girl.

The hearing on Friday heard that Robinson's victim had to give evidence at his trial.

Judge Howard Crowson said that at first the girl thought her relationship with Robinson was loving, but then realised it was "poisonous".

She went on to develop an eating disorder before reporting the attacks to police, the court heard.

'No remorse'

Jailing Robinson, of Auckland Way, Stockton, Judge Crowson, said: "It is clear to me that a prison sentence will be hard for you to bear.

"It is also clear to me that you bear no remorse for what you did, you continually deny you did any wrong, but your family and the victim will have to bear the effects of what you did."

Adrian Dent, defending, said: "One can only hope that the problems that the victim has experienced reach some form of respite and recovery in due course."

Robinson was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was disqualified from working with children.
