Middlesbrough man struck by marked police car

A 19-year-old man suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a marked police car on Teesside.

The Cleveland Police vehicle was answering a 999 call when it struck the man, who has not been named, in Windsor Road, Saltburn, early on Saturday.

The man, from Middlesbrough, was taken to the town's James Cook University Hospital, where his injuries were said to be non life-threatening.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating.

Inspector Mark Pitt, of Cleveland Police, said: "The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and an investigation is being carried out.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information in connection with it is asked to get in touch with us."
