Man and dog rescued from Saltburn cliffs

A man and his dog were rescued after they were cut off by the incoming tide at the base of cliffs.

Two lifeboats were launched from Redcar RNLI to the trapped pair at Saltburn on Saturday afternoon.

The lifeboat crews described it as an "extremely difficult" rescue because of submerged rocks and large waves. One of the lifeboats was damaged.

The man, from Nottingham, and his dog were taken ashore at Saltburn and he did not need medical treatment.

A relief lifeboat will be used in Redcar while repairs are carried out.
