Stockton's Victoria Bridge closed for maintenance
Stockton's Victoria Bridge is to close for maintenance work.
The council is carrying out resurfacing and installing a bus lane as part of the £60m Tees Valley Bus Network improvements.
Along with Yale Crescent, the bridge will be closed eastbound from 2200 BST and reopen in time for peak-hour traffic on Monday morning.
It will be closed westbound during next weekend. On both occasions diversions will be signposted.
Councillor Bob Cook, Stockton Council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "To keep disruption to a minimum, we have combined essential maintenance to the Victoria Bridge with the work to install the new bus lane.
"Once complete, the new system will improve road safety and create a more reliable system for bus users."
The wrought-iron Grade II-listed bridge was opened in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
