Arrest over charity bags thefts in Middlesbrough

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft after charity bags, left outside houses on a Middlesbrough street, were taken.

A number of people in the Acklam area called the police when bags for the Great North Air Ambulance were taken away in vans they did not recognise.

Police arrested a man following the incident which happened on Friday.

Officers have warned people not to put charity bags out too early and to beware of bogus collectors.
