Ex-soldier extradited from Afghanistan on kidnap charge

A former soldier extradited from Afghanistan has appeared in court charged with kidnap, false imprisonment and grievous bodily harm.

Anthony Malone, 38, from Billingham, Teesside, is accused of being paid to help abduct and assault two businessmen over an alleged property deal.

The incident is believed to have happened in April, 2007 at Wilmer Place, Stoke Newington, north London.

The ex-paratrooper was remanded in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court.

Appearing before District Judge Jane McIvor, he spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

He is due to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on 16 November.

It is alleged that Mr Malone fled to Afghanistan shortly after the incident.
