Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man who was attacked in Hastings died in hospital.

Police said two people aged 60 and 53 were found with serious injuries near a taxi rank in the East Sussex town in the early hours of Friday.

The 60-year-old victim, Brian Hill from St Leonards, died in the Royal Sussex County Hospital on Saturday.

Two men, a 24-year-old from Rye and a 21-year-old from Hastings, have been arrested and bailed pending inquiries.

The other victim remains in a stable condition in another hospital following the attack in Havelock Road, police said.

Det Supt Tanya Jones said it was "devastating news" for Mr Hill's friends and family.

She said four men were seen arguing over what is thought to have been a dispute about a taxi moments before the attack.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses, but we are still appealing to anyone who has not yet come forward to get in touch," she added.
