Stampeding cows injure two walkers in East Sussex

Two women have been seriously injured during a cow stampede in East Sussex, emergency services have said.

South East Coast Ambulance said paramedics treated two women in fields behind the Bear Inn and Burwash Motel at Burwash on Thursday afternoon.

One woman was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The other was taken to Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

A barman at the motel told the BBC the cows had recently calved.

He said the women had been walking their dogs when the cattle rushed at them before one of the women managed to get to the motel to call for help.

The brigade said the farmer had been alerted to the incident.
