Pair struck by car as they helped woman in Pagham

Two men were struck by a car and injured as they tried to help a woman who had fallen in the street.

Police said the car failed to stop after the men, aged 32 and 35, went to the aid of the 41-year-old woman when she fell in Harbour View Road, Pagham.

The 32-year-old was critically injured, while the 35-year-old had minor injuries. The woman was also hurt.

A 39-year-old Bognor man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

He was also held on suspicion of driving without a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop after a road accident and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, Sussex Police said.

The incident happened at about 01:40 BST on Sunday. Police have appealed for witnesses.
