A policeman who filmed himself performing sexual acts while in uniform and had dealings with sex workers has been jailed for 15 months.

PC Luke Smith, 34, who was based at Hastings, pleaded guilty to two charges of misconduct in public office and one count of obtaining personal data.

He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court to 15 months in prison for each misconduct count, to run concurrently.

Sussex Police said Smith was sacked after he admitted the offences.

'Tarnished the name'

The offences took place between January 2011 and March 2015.

Smith sent text messages and videos of himself performing sex acts to one sex worker, with whom he had a relationship, and obtained the personal details of another who complained about his handling of an incident.

Deputy Chief Constable Robin Smith said: "Smith has tarnished the name of Sussex Police, has wrongly discredited thousands of hard-working and supremely conscientious colleagues and, above all else, has abjectly failed the people of Sussex who put their trust in us."

Smith was also fined £1 for the charge of obtaining personal data.
