Falling lamppost injures man at Newhaven station

A man suffered head injuries when a lamppost fell on him at a railway station during the morning commute.

The 23-year-old was knocked unconscious when he was struck at Newhaven Town Station at about 08.40 GMT.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

British Transport Police (BTP) said officers at the railway station would help health and safety investigators.

South East Coast Ambulance said the man was conscious but suffering from concussion while he was being taken to hospital for treatment for "head injuries and back pain".

A BTP spokesman said: "Police are currently on scene and will assist health and safety investigators in establishing the circumstances of this incident."
