Brighton hit-and-run CCTV shows victim 'left for dead'

Graphic CCTV footage of the moment a man was struck and thrown into the air in a hit-and-run crash has been released.

The 53-year-old man suffered serious head injuries when he was hit by a Fiat 500 in Brighton. He is now recovering,

In the video, the victim is thrown several feet into the air by the impact. He then lies motionless on the ground as passers-by come to his aid.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the crash.

Sussex Police said a 31-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle taking.

He was held after he tried to hide on a roof in Donald Hall Road, Brighton.

A 56-year-old woman, also from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both are in custody.

The force released the footage in a bid to find witnesses. The BBC has chosen not to broadcast the moments after the man is hit.

Police said the footage had been viewed more than a million times.

Officers said they wanted to trace the drivers of a taxi, van and Ford Focus and a parked car who were in the area at the time of the crash at 15:40 GMT on 14 January.
