Mayfield crash: Woman dies and teenage girl badly hurt

A woman has died and a teenage girl is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after three cars crashed in East Sussex.

The 65-year-old driver was fatally injured when a Toyota, a Skoda and a Vauxhall collided in Mayfield at about 18:15 GMT on Thursday.

She was taken to King's College Hospital, south London, but died later.

One of the other drivers, a 17-year-old girl from Hailsham, was treated in hospital for serious injuries.

Sgt Sarah Potter of Sussex Police said: "We would like to hear from any witnesses, particularly a woman driving a dark hatchback-style car who had to leave the scene to collect her daughter before police arrived."

The driver of the third car, a 24-year-old woman from Heathfield, was uninjured in the crash on the A267 at Argos Hill.
