A man has been taken to hospital and a road cordoned off after a suspected chemical spill in West Sussex.

Sussex Police said a 76-year-old man is thought to have come into contact with a chemical powder at an address in Mill Bay Lane, Horsham, at about 13:15 GMT.

Officers closed the road up to its junction with Worthing Road while specialist offers ensured the "scene is safe and secure".

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known.

Insp Andy Sanford said: "We are not treating this as a suspicious incident and there is no risk to members of the public.

"The cordon and road closure are temporary, precautionary measures and should be lifted later."
