Motorcyclist breaks neck in off-road crash near Crawley

A motorcyclist has been flown to hospital with a broken neck after crashing into a tree while riding off-road near Crawley without a helmet.

The 36-year-old was airlifted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, after the accident on a bridleway in Faygate on Wednesday.

His pillion passenger, 31, who police say was also not wearing a helmet, was treated in hospital in Redhill.

Police say "anti-social" riders face police action and risk serious injury.

Sgt Alan Spicer, of Sussex Police, said: "Local officers have been giving their best efforts to prevent this anti-social riding happening on public footpaths in the area. But their worst fears have been realised and a man is seriously ill in hospital."
