West Sussex GPs offer extra weekend appointments

An extra 360 GP appointments have been made available across an area of West Sussex this weekend to alleviate the pressure on hospital A&E departments.

Doctors in Adur, Arun, Chanctonbury, Chichester, Regis and Worthing are working extra hours in addition to the existing out-of-hours service.

The NHS Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said patients should call NHS 111 to see a doctor.

Extra appointments were also available last weekend and on New Year's Day.

A spokeswoman for the CCG, which has 54 GP practices across the area, said the measures taken had been successful.

She stressed patients would not be able to see a GP without an appointment, and not all surgeries were open.
