The mother of one of two men who were killed in a car crash near Horsham has been speaking of her grief.

Marc Martin, 22, and his friend Matt Preece, 21, died after their BMW hit a tree and flipped onto its roof in High Beeches Lane, Handcross, West Sussex.

Two other passengers, a girl aged 16 and the 20-year-old driver, were hurt.

Mr Martin's mother, Marie Smith, said her son's death on Wednesday night would leave two young boys without a father.

"I've lost one of the most precious things in the world," she said.

'Very shocking'

Local resident Jay Cooper lives next to the road, and was one of the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident.

"It was very shocking. It's not a scene you want to see ever again," he said.

Ch Insp Phil Nicholas, of the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit, asked for anyone who was travelling on the road between Turners Hill and Handcross at about 22:00 GMT on Wednesday who may have seen the BMW car to contact officers.
