Hove robber wore 'Ku Klux Klan' hood

A woman was robbed of her mobile phone and bag by a man wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood and carrying kitchen scissors, Sussex Police have said.

The man approached his 26-year-old victim about 02:00 GMT on Saturday in Somerhill Road, Hove.

He demanded her phone and bag, which she handed over with a bottle of wine in a carrier bag. The woman was not physically harmed.

Police said the robber was wearing a pillowcase fashioned into a Klan hood.

It had holes cut out for eyes and a mouth drawn on in pen. A corner of the pillow case was made into a point.

Halloween evening

The man ran off and was last seen in the Furze Hill area. The mask was later found nearby.

"This was in the early hours just after Halloween evening so many people would have been out in fancy dress," said Det Sgt Chris Lane.

"However, we appeal to anyone who saw this particular man in the area of Furze Hill or St Ann's Well Gardens to get in touch.

"Similarly if a friend or family member left the house in possession of such an item, please contact us."
