Polegate councillor Joseph O'Riordan accused of attempted murder

A councillor has been charged with attempted murder after his wife was found with stab wounds in a flat in Polegate, East Sussex.

Amanda O'Riordan, 47, was found with serious injuries just before 22:00 BST on Thursday at the property in Guardian Court, Brookside Avenue, Polegate.

She was taken to hospital where her condition was described as critical.

Joseph O'Riordan, 73, a Polegate town councillor, has been remanded in custody by Brighton magistrates.

He is next due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 6 November.

Sussex Police said Mrs O'Riordan remains at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
