Buildings evacuated after report of suspicious package in Crawley

Three buildings were evacuated when concerns were raised about a suspicious letter at the office of Henry Smith, Conservative MP for Crawley.

Sussex Police said it was informed that a small envelope had been delivered to the building in Stephenson Way, Three Bridges at 11:45 GMT.

A bomb disposal team examined the package and established it was not harmful.

The building and two adjacent ones were evacuated during the incident.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We thank the occupants of the buildings that were evacuated, and anyone else in the vicinity who was inconvenienced, for their co-operation and understanding while the envelope was checked out."
