A man arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in East Sussex has been released on bail.

The 61-year-old man was held after the body was found in George Street in the Old Town area of Hastings, about 22:35 GMT on Wednesday.

Detectives said the woman knew the man, who has been bailed until 19 December pending further inquiries.

The victim, whose body was found in a communal area outside the flats, has not yet been formally identified.

Police were called to the scene by neighbours.

Det Chief Insp Jon Fanner said: "We are treating the death as unexplained at this time and are keeping an open mind as to what has happened."

"I am still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen the woman from 19:00 GMT to 22:35 GMT on Wednesday, or who saw or heard anything suspicious."
