Police made 40 arrests at Brighton Pride, an event attended by an estimated 25,000 people.

Offences included being drunk and disorderly, theft, assaulting a police officer, sexual assault and possession of drugs, Sussex Police said.

The attendance figure for the parade and concert on Saturday makes it the largest in the event's history.

Revellers were entertained with music including shows by Alison Moyet and Paloma Faith in Preston Park.

Det Ch Insp Paul Betts, of Sussex Police, said: "Given the sheer size of this operation, I would say that overall, the day was a huge success and the vast majority of attendees will have experienced a wonderful festive weekend and will take home some great memories of Pride 2013."
