Man charged after five-hour stand-off in Eastbourne

A 38-year-old man has been charged after a five-hour stand-off with Sussex Police following reports a man was being held against his will.

Police were called to a flat in Hazelwood Avenue, Eastbourne, at about 19:00 GMT on Monday.

Robert Anthony O'Connor, of Cavendish Avenue, Eastbourne has been charged with false imprisonment, making a threat to kill, and assault.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court on 8 March.

A 52-year-old man who was also arrested was released without charge.
