East Grinstead pedestrian John Gayfer killed on A27

A 52-year-old man who died when he was hit by a car on the A27 near Arundel in West Sussex has been named by police.

John Russell Gayfer, of Woodlands Road, East Grinstead, was struck by a Rover 75 in Crossbush in the early hours of Saturday.

The 24-year-old driver, from Portslade, was treated for shock.

Sussex Police said the carriageway was closed temporarily following the incident to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

A spokesman for the force added: "Inquiries are continuing and officers have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have seen a man walking along the A27 in the Crossbush area or a Rover 75 prior to the collision."
