Man arrested in Brighton flat murder hunt

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the stabbing of a 37-year-old man from Liverpool in a flat in Brighton.

Paramedics and police were called to the flat in Taunton Road, Bevendean, at about 05:20 BST on Saturday but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed the man died from extensive blood loss caused by a knife wound.

Police are searching for a weapon, thought to be a 6in (15cm) knife.

A police cordon and scene guards remain in place in the Taunton Road area.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish what led up to this tragic incident," said Det Insp Phil Mays.

Following the man's death, detectives named Carlo Dawes, 34, of Bevendean, as the man they wanted to interview in their inquiries.

Mr Mays said: "This is a tragic incident involving a small number of people who we believe were acquainted."
