One dead and five injured in A21 Hurst Green crash

A man has died in a road crash in Sussex that left five others injured.

Emergency crews closed the A21 for five hours after the crash in Hurst Green on Saturday involving a VW Golf and a Jeep.

Sussex Police said the Golf driver, a 26-year-old man from Birmingham who has not yet been named, died at the scene.

His passenger, also from Birmingham, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. Four people in the Jeep were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Witness appeal

The four people in the Jeep were a 51-year-old man who was driving the car, a 45-year-old woman, and two girls aged 10 and 11, all from Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

Sgt Dan Pitcher said: "This is a very tragic incident and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the cars prior to it to please contact Sussex Police."

The crash happened at about 16:13 BST, near the junction with the A229 Merriments Lane.

Witnesses should contact Sussex Police.
