Crawley home alone mother attends police station

The mother of a four-year-old girl who was found home alone in West Sussex has attended a police station voluntarily.

Sussex Police said the woman, from Crawley, who was believed to have gone away on holiday, was spoken to under caution but not arrested.

The girl was discovered after two 16-year-old boys were arrested in the Maidenbower area of the town on Tuesday on suspicion of driving offences.

One was arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle and child neglect.

He is believed to be the four-year-old girl's brother.

The teenagers were stopped by police in Maidenbower Drive at 01:00 BST. The second boy was arrested on suspicion of taking a car without the owner's consent.

Both were released on bail until 27 September.

The girl was put into the care of West Sussex County Council.

Sussex Police said the investigation, in conjuction with social services, was ongoing.
