South Downs run timing scheme sparks row

A pilot scheme to encourage long distance runners to use the South Downs Way in Sussex has been criticised for creating a blight on the landscape.

The system allows runners to time themselves by swiping a box at various stages of their run, with their times and positions uploaded to a website for them to view later.

Critics say the boxes are unsightly but others say the issue has been exaggerated.
