A 38-year-old woman who was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of the same offence has been bailed until 28 March.

The alarm was raised at 0015 GMT on Tuesday when a passer-by spotted flames as he drove past the restaurant.

A total of 13 firefighters dealt with the initial incident and a family living above the premises were led to safety.

When fire investigators returned later in the morning to examine the scene in daylight, they discovered the device.

Sussex Police cordoned off the area and a bomb disposal team was sent to carry out a controlled explosion.
