Bogus bailiffs target Worthing householder

Bogus bailiffs have targeted a West Sussex resident by claiming to represent the local council and demanding cash.

The 25-year-old woman answered the door to two men, dressed in suits, at Gratwicke Road, Worthing, on Tuesday.

They said they wanted to collect money from a named previous resident for non-payment of council tax and if she did not pay they would take her property.

Police said she went to the bank while they waited in a car outside her house.

Worthing Borough Council said bailiffs had not been sent to the address for the collection of council tax.

Det Sgt Simon Dunn, of Sussex police, said the men did not produce any identity.
