Woman found on Hastings railway line dies in hospital

A woman who was found seriously injured on a railway line in East Sussex has died in hospital.

Officers found the 25-year-old near the railway bridge at Linton Road, Hastings, just before 0400 GMT on Sunday.

She was taken to the Conquest Hospital with serious head injuries, but died on Monday, police said.

Officers said a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been bailed until 24 March.

Sussex Police said the man and woman were known to each other.

The railway line was closed in both directions between West St Leonards and Ore on Sunday while detectives and scenes of crime officers examined the scene.

It was reopened just after midday.

Det Ch Insp Trevor Bowles, of Sussex Police, said: "We are treating this as a suspicious death and extensive local enquiries are continuing in the area."
