Woman stabbed to death in car in Crawley is named

A 27-year-old woman who bled to death after being repeatedly stabbed in a car in West Sussex has been named.

Shehla Baig, of Woodfield Road, Crawley was found seriously injured in a Volkswagen Passat estate car outside her home on Tuesday evening.

Police and paramedics were called but Ms Baig was declared dead 45 minutes later from a severed artery in her leg.

A man aged 30, arrested on suspicion of murder, has been detained in a secure unit under the Mental Health Act.

Victim knew suspects

A 51-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail until 25 January.

Both men are from Crawley. Sussex Police said the victim and two suspects were known to each other.

Det Ch Insp Nigel Smith said the attack on Ms Baig took place in the car while three occupants were travelling in it.

It was then driven back to Woodfield Road, from where the ambulance service was called.
