Horsted Keynes homes evacuated in gas cylinder alert

Homes in two residential roads in West Sussex were evacuated after two sheds containing gas cylinders caught fire.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said one propane and one butane/propane mix cylinder were inside the garden sheds in Challoners, Horsted Keynes.

Firefighters called to the scene at 20:51 GMT on Thursday used hoses to cool the cylinders.

Residents in Challoners and Lewes Road were allowed to return to their homes just after midnight.

Fire appliances from Haywards Heath and Turners Hill, along with a Red Cross support unit, attended the blaze. The cause is being investigated.
